Amy started reading at an early age by being read to by her father Jim many nights before she went to bed. As she started getting older, Amy would read along with Jim. In Amy's household reading was and still is a very important skill that her father values being an English professor himself. As Amy got even older she became reading independently and soon became an extremely fast reader. As Amy got into late elementary school and middle school Amy was reading approximately fifty books a year. When Amy can get her hands on a book she won't put it down until it is finished. If she picks up a good book, more than likely that book will be finished within five hours. As Amy got into her high school career her reading enthusiasm had died down. But as Amy enters into her senior year she is remembering the importance and fun reading is. Currently Amy is not reading a book, but hopes within the next week she will get into a new book. Over this summer Amy read a couple books, one of them was the book Milk and Honey. Over the last school year Amy approximately read four or five books. One of Amy's favorite authors is John Grisham. Since Amy's father is a English professor her house is filled with over three hundred books. As a reader Amy is a fast paced reader, and understands that at times she does have to reread to go back to understand.
Amy learned how to write from being in school, and from all of her past teachers. But Amy ultimately became the writer is today because of her father. SInce her father Jim is an english professor, Jim would often have comments and help Amy's writing get to the "next level". Jim would give Amy a new perspective on what she is writing about, or ask how does that paragraph relate to another. Amy believes that there are many reasons why people write some people write to share or spread ideas, educate, tell a story, share history or experiences, but a big reason why people write is to express themselves. Amy states that everybody can write, it might not necessarily be an amazing writing piece. The key is that every single person can get better at writing. Amy does like to write, and when she has time, paragraphs after paragraphs emerge. When Amy writes she likes to write is a more mature style that other teenagers her age would do. As a writer Amy tends to write about what is going on in her life, and the experiences she is going through in life. Sometimes Amy often words sentences that don't always make sense to others. Amy tends to forget to reread her writing, but when she does she sees a handful of spelling and grammer mistakes.
